Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan
U.S. Department of Education pays interest while the borrower is in school and during grace and deferment periods.  The student must be taking at least 6 hrs. each semester and have a need for financial aid.

Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan
Borrower is responsible for all interest.  Financial need is not required.
