Who are we?
* We are perhaps the most invisible among you
* The fastest growing demographic in the US as baby boomers age
* 60% of us experience serious health issues in the 1st year
* 1/3 of us meet the criteria for clinical depression after an nexpected event in our life
* 50% of us remain clinically depressed
* Most of us experience financial decline
* We lose more than 50% of our friendships
* 50% of us leave the church
* 75% of marriages leave us widowed at the average age of 56
We are Widows
* Nothing will ever be the same
* Our calendar, checkbook, fridge, thermostat, bedtime stories, hildren's sporting events, holidays, friendships
and home are never the same
* Our journeys are different and we fit in no mold
* We are vulnerable
* We are forced to learn how to fix things that are husbands would normally take care of
* Our emotions change
* Our children need mentoring by males in the church
* We are trying to find our new strengths and identify our new mission in life
Our Strengths
* We understand loss
* We gain a fresh perspective on Scripture
* We become strong and faith filled
* We are compassionate because our heart has been broken
* We have new and relevant gifts to offer
* We are bold
* We have an incredibly strong connecting bond that binds us to other widows because of our shared experience
Many times people want to respond to these women, but we just don't know what to say or what we can do that will help them. This conference is going to offer a true balance for the church and today's widowed women by understanding some major areas that widowed women face.
* Vulnerabilities
* Strengths
* Relationships
* Mission
Let this be a conference that helps your church body identify its equity so that it will have a widow's ministry with eyes to see, ears to listen, the heart to respond, and the hands to serve so that with these widowed women we are not going blindly through this new walk of life.
