“Since biblical truth stands at the center of the Christian tradition, and the Scriptures are the integrating core of a Christian education, the mission of my instruction in Biblical and Theological Studies is to help cultivate Christian students who are biblically rooted and theologically formed. I want to foster biblical and theological knowledge informed by rigorous, critical and Christian engagement with classic and contemporary scholarship”. (Jonathan Barber 2008)
Jonathan has been teaching Bible at SEBC since 2005 as adjunct and now as adjunct in the Achieve program. He is completing his Doctor of Philosophy at Oxford Graduate School. His dissertation is on “Ecclesial Ethics”, with an emphasis on its Biblical Theology in 1 Corinthians to inform an understanding of the corporate formation and vocation of the Community of Faith, the church.
Jonathan has been married to Dawn since 1975. They have three children, two son-in-laws, a daughter-in-law and two angelic grandchildren. He is an Elder and teacher at Shades Mountain Bible Church. He loves hunting, the family “camping expeditions” as well as feeding his passion for the “muscle” cars and trucks of his youth. And of course, “so many books, so little time”. One of his favorite authors is Dietrich Bonhoeffer, especially “Life Together: The Classic Exploration of Faith in Community”.
