Riverside Baptist Church Summer Camp Counselor – Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Directly responsible to the Camp Director.
- Group supervision of campers with attention to all of the following areas: program, health, discipline, cleanliness, safety and routine duties.
- Pray for, encourage and work with campers to create a positive and up-lifting atmosphere for every camper and staff member.
- Implement a weekly schedule for your camp group.
- Organize, lead and teach a variety of small and large group activities, to including Bible studies
- Promote camper participation in daily activities.
- Exhibit personal habits, health, dress, speech and relationships with other staff that serve as a role model to campers.
- Work with Camp Director and other camp staff to iron out any issues or difficulties with facilities, programs and campers.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and program areas. This includes, but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
- Identify and respond to camper behavior issues. Make sure that appropriate behavior issues are reported to Camp Director.
- Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities. Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized and free of litter.
Qualifications:
- Personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a daily walk with Him.
- Love for kids and heart for ministry.
- Demonstrated experience working with children in day camp or program setting.
- Ability to lead, plan, organize, teach and implement a variety of small and large group activities each week.
- Mature and responsible with excellent character, integrity and adaptability.
- Ability to communicate and work with a variety of age and skill levels of children within 1st thru 5th grade.
- The desire and ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere.
- The ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control.
- Have or willing to obtain CPR training and basic first aid.

Counselor Rules and Regulations:
In order to have a safe, healthy and positive camp that will result in a good experience for everyone, counselors will NOT:
1) Use profanity or objectionable language
2) Engage in or permit verbal or non-verbal put-downs or abuse of others
3) Permit vandalism of property in any form
4) Engage in or permit excessive “horseplay” or physical “rough-housing” with campers.
5) Make threats that are unwise to carry out or administer physical punishments
6) Be under the influence of or in possession of any drugs, alcohol or tobacco products
7) Wear T-shirts, caps or clothing that advertise alcohol, tobacco or anything offensive. Wear bandanas, hats or clothing that would suggest gang symbols or membership.
8) Use cell phones during work hours except for extreme emergencies and break time. Under no conditions should a counselor be on their cell phone (calling, texting, surfing, etc.) while watching children.
9) Violate the RBC dress code.
